When I’m not given the opportunity to pursue certain skills professionally, I seek them out on my own. This has always been a way for me to satisfy my creative thirst, while being able to collect new skills that I can apply to more traditional and professional settings. Here is a collection of some of my favorite pieces I’ve had the opportunity to make.
After Dark
A friend of mine reached out to me asking if I owned a night vision camera. He had just gotten a new hair style, and the best way to capture it was, of course, through the lense of night vision. Now like most people, I do not own that type of camera. However, nothing is impossible when you have Photoshop.
I went on quite the journey bringing these photos to life. From photographing in near total darkness, to finding just the right shades of green, to finally layering filters in Photoshop to get just the right amount of moody grunge.
Sometimes it’s more fun to say yes, and then go on the journey to figure out how to get there.
Graduation Photos
Many people choose to capture life’s milestones through photography. In this case, I was asked to take graduation photos with a twist. The request was clear: the photos had to be unique and reflect the graduate’s personality. We ditched the traditional cap-and-gown setup and hit the town instead, shooting on location at thrift stores, record shops, and even an ice cream parlor to create something truly personal and memorable.
The First Woman on the Moon
Inspired by one of my favorite pop stars, I had help building a real, life size moon prop that I was able to stand and sit on.
Unfortunately, taking it to space was out of the option but, a little editing magic can go a long way.
I’ve always appreciated the juxtaposing imperfection of a man made moon vs a digital sky to create an admittedly odd, dreamy feel.
